NUCCU & The Patriot Act

To help the government fight terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means for you:

When you open an account with NU Community Credit Union, we will ask you for your name, address, date of birth, and other informationthat will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license, or other identifying documents.

You can fight identity theft

Internet pirates are constantly finding new ways to steal passwords and other valuable financial information. One of the latest "scams" is called "phishing". They want account numbers, passwords, social security numbers & other confidential information so they can then use this to loot your accounts and/or run up bills on your credit cards. In the worst case, you could find yourself a victim of identity theft that not only could damage your financial history, but could also take years to unravel. The good news is, you have the power to stop them.

Here's how:
1. Never provide personal information, such as social security numbers, account numbers or passwords over the phone or internet if you did not initiate contact.

2. Review your account statements regularly to ensure all charges are correct.

If you fall victim, act immediately!

Report suspicious e-mails or phone calls to the Federal Trade Commision at www.consumer.gov/idtheft or by calling 1-877-IDTHEFT.

Remember, you are in control............PROTECT YOURSELF!

Overdraft Protection

Per Reg. D, you are allowed 6 electronic transfers per month from shares to checking. After the 6th transfer, if there are non-sufficient funds in your checking, you will be charged a $35 fee and the item will be returned. The easiest way to safeguard yourself from incurring these charges, is to call and transfer funds over the phone, especially if you know you will be writing a lot of checks.
